Dementia in Hearing Loss

This is a true story!

A gentleman brought his father to see me for a hearing test. He explained that his dad had dementia and it was difficult to have any conversation with him. He suspected his dad had some hearing loss which made his condition even more difficult, but the GP and carers did not really take this on board. I attempted to engage with the man, but he just did not communicate. I carried out a hearing test and set up some hearing aids for him.

What happened next will stay with me forever, this man came to life in front of our eyes. Father and son had a conversation, 'the first time for ages', it was amazing. There were tears all round, really! The son got his dad the hearing aids without hesitation and subsequent appointments confirmed that at least two lives had changed for the better. This is a real life case and it is why I do what I do. Assisting hearing loss really can change lives for the better!
