Professional ear wax removal in a safe and welcoming clinic
Ear wax build-up can affect your hearing and leave your ears feeling blocked, uncomfortable or irritated. Many GP surgeries no longer offer ear wax removal, leaving people unsure where to turn.

At Alton Hearing Care, microsuction is our preferred method of ear wax removal, using safe, modern equipment and gentle techniques to remove wax under direct vision. In some cases, irrigation may also be used where clinically appropriate.
Dedicated Treatment Room
Your appointment takes place in a calm, private and hygienic clinical setting designed specifically for hearing care and microsuction treatment.

WHAT IS MICROSUCTION?
One of the safest and most effective methods of ear wax removal
Microsuction uses specialist equipment and magnification to gently remove wax from the ear canal using controlled suction under direct vision.

Unlike traditional ear syringing, microsuction does not involve flushing the ear with water, making it a cleaner and more controlled procedure. It is generally our preferred method of wax removal, although irrigation may occasionally be recommended depending on the condition of the ear and the type of wax present.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Preparing for your appointment
To help soften the wax and make removal easier, we recommend using olive oil drops in the affected ear for 3–5 days before your appointment.
Avoid using cotton buds, as these can push wax deeper into the ear canal.
If you are unsure whether microsuction is suitable for you, please contact us and we will be happy to advise.
Please note: we currently provide wax removal for adults aged 19+.

Most appointments take around 20–30 minutes.
Do I need ear drops beforehand?
Yes, we usually recommend olive oil drops for several days before your appointment unless advised otherwise.
